Medea Design Project

The second project of third year we were asked to design for the play Medea, we could choose the Euripides version or the Liz Lochead Scots  version. I chose the latter to utilise the links to my own culture, and the concept I came up with linked the play to the Celts in pre-Roman Britain. Linking the people to the landscape they existed in through their costume and then further to the role of women in their society through the work that was expected of men and women. In their costume I have used metals to denote higher classes and stone to represent lower class men, while women are represented through organic materials such as wood, fur and feathers.
